You & I – this flower knows
On coastal cliff – this flower grows
Barren rock, isle & stone,
On drift-wood shore, on whale bone

Tussocks favour saltmarsh brine
Dry roots thread green carpet twine
Pink petals under zephyr’s squall,
In seagrass dunes the curlews call

We wandered in this island place,
Gathered wood for fireplace
By morning sang the seal-folks’ song,
And sailing stories told night long

It does much good to say these things,
Gives all hope to spread our wings
After landfall & back to sea,
This flower calls to you & me
